Rural Runners

Wednesday, 24 August 2022 by MONIFF-Admin

In-Person Event: SHOWROOM

2022 | United States | 15 min | Documentary

Director: Forest Woodward, Gnarly Bay

In 2020, Chloe Maxmin, a 28-year-old climate activist, became the youngest woman elected to the state senate in Maine history. Chloe and her campaign manager, Canyon Woodward, rewrote the strategy for progressive success in rural America and won two campaigns in red districts where they were expected to lose. “Rural Runners” follows Chloe and Canyon on the campaign trail alongside Canyon’s burgeoning rise as a champion ultra-distance runner. Their approach rehumanizes our deeply divided political system, offering hope and a path toward a healthier democracy.

Short Life of Trouble: The Legend of G.B. Grayson

Friday, 26 August 2022 by MONIFF-Admin

From Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee, Gilliam Banmon Grayson (1887-1930) was a blind fiddler from one of the most isolated regions on the East Coast. Largely unknown, he may be one of the most influential musicians in the history of bluegrass and country music. His music has been recorded and performed by world-famous musicians, including Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, Doc Watson, Dr. Ralph Stanly, and the Kingston Trio, among many others. Yet, very few people have an inkling of who G.B. Grayson was and what he accomplished in only two years of professional recording.
